On Thursday September 19, allies and members of South Florida’s LGBT community will gather at the Miami Light Project, in Wynwood, for a screening of personal videos from 26 Floridians who have shared the loves of their life on camera.

The screening occurs during the first week of Hispanic Heritage Month, and is the culmination of the Amores de mi Vida project, an initiative by the ACLU of Florida, with the support of the Miami Foundation, to address issues related to the LGBT and Hispanic/Latino communities in South Florida.

Among those who have shared their stories with the project are: the vice-mayor of the city of Hallandale Beach, Alexander Lewy; State Representative Jose Javier Rodriguez; religious leaders; immigrant rights activists; artists; students; and LGBT activists. The event will be led by Venezuelan journalist Soyara Alcalá and there will be a special award for the video which had the most views on YouTube, as well as the premiere of a video by special guest, the Inaugural-poet 2013, Richard Blanco.

Though the event is primarily in Spanish, there will be English subtitles for the videos and portions of the program will be in English.

The screening is free and open to the public, with light refreshments provided.
