Lecture with Alberto Baraya

September 18, 2013 at 2pm

For more than a decade, Colombian artist Alberto Baraya has been working on deconstructing the figure of the traveler and, by extension, the discourse of science, by questioning the empirical objectivity of the botanical naturalist. The exhibition Naturalism/Artificiality: Expeditions, and Research of the Herbarium of Artificial Plants includes works from three ongoing series, the Herbarium of Artificial Plants, The Fable of the Birds, and Anthropometries, which document and display the observations of artificial plants, bird collections, and individuals, he has made on his travels. Curated by Francine Birbragher.
