GAB Studio
105 Northwest 23rd Street
Miami, FL 33127
Three of a Perfect Pair program will feature music by composer husband and wife team Charles Norman Mason and Dorothy Hindman. Works include pure electronic music, video collaborations with artists Sheri Wills (video), Sally Wood Johnson (visual arts), and Carrie Mae Weems (photography, video), and works for cello and electronics.
Experimental cellist Craig Hultgren of Birmingham, Alabama will perform the cello works, most of which were created for him. Known nationally for his innovative approach to the cello and free improvisation techniques, Hultgren routinely challenges the limits of the cello, using amplification, electronics, and unusual techniques to create an unforgettable visual and aural experience.
Mason is a newly tenured professor of music composition at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, who joined the UM Faculty in the Fall of 2010. Hindman is a freelance composer who also teaches music theory and musicology at UM and FIU. Both are UM School of Music Alumni (Mason, B.M. ’77; Hindman, B.M. ’88, D.M.A. ’94).
